Carlos Soares has a degree in Systems and Computer Engineering from the University of Minho, holds a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Porto. After 15 years at the Faculty of Economics, he is now Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto. He also teaches at the PBS (Porto Business School, former EGP-UPBS), where he is one of the coordinators of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Intelligence & Analytics and is post-graduate supervisor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is a researcher for It INESC TEC, with interests in Data Mining, Business Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation and has participated in over 20 national and international projects of R&D&I, as well as in consultancy projects. His collaborations with companies include Fartech, WeDo, CreativeSystems, Bivolino, PalcoPrincipal and STCP. He has published / edited several books and over 100 articles in journals and conferences, of which more than 50 are indexed by ISI. He has participated in the organization of various events, including KDD 2009 and the ECML PKDD 2012 and was one of the Program Chairs of the ECML PKDD 2015 and of IDA 2016.He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Department of Informatics Engineering of FEUP and of the Coordination Council of the Centre for Engineering of Business Systems of INESC TEC. In 2009, he received the Scientific Merit Award of Excellence from the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence.
